Graeme Le Maistre Adventure off-road Series
Mont Rossignol – 15 January 2012
REPORT

A bumper field of 44 runners turned up on Sunday to take part in the latest of the Graeme Le Maistre Off  Road Adventure Series.  The latest event taking place at Mont Rossignol on Senator Lyndon Farnham’s headland. Despite sunny but cold conditions, the going could only be described as heavy with several runners taking tumbles on the wet sodden ground.

Supervet Nick Gorrod was the early leader until the top of the first hill, where he was caught and passed by eventual winner Elliott Dorey.  Dorey steadily pulled away from his pursuers, lapping half the filed in the 5 lap 5 mile race and came home a clear winner in 27 minutes and 7 seconds.  Second place went to Tony Banks in 28 minutes and 5 seconds.  Despite running in conditions not to his liking, Banks held a 16 second lead over the 3rd finisher and winner of the recent Bouley Bay hill climb Dave Holmes (28 minutes and 21 seconds).

First woman home and sixth finisher overall was Jo Gorrod in a time of 29 minutes and10 second.  Second home was Felicity Johnson-Deeley (30.27) and 3rd back was Arlene Lewis, who completed the course in 32 minutes and 54 seconds.
The run of the day award however, went to the fifth woman to Finish.  Claire Forbes posted a time of 33 minutes and 56 seconds.  This was a welcome return from the 2 time Jersey Marathon champion, who has been away from the sport for over a year due to illness and injury.  Despite saying before the race, that she would only run a couple of lap, she hung on grimly to complete the tough course.  Her re-emergence as a top level performer is surely not far away.
