48 Athletes, 31 medals, 51 PBs!

What a weekend at the Hampshire Track & Field Championships 2026!

This year, rather than travelling to Portsmouth, we enjoyed the hospitality of Basingstoke for the first time.  It was a weekend of two half, with low wind and lovely warm temperatures on the Saturday giving lots of PBs for the athletes.  Sunday luckily stayed dry, but was cold and windy, although more PBs came.

The stand-out performance on the track on Saturday came in the Senior men’s 200m.  Jaime Oldham looked impressive in the heat with a big PB of 21.30 secs, which he then improved to 21.21s in the final, half a second ahead of the competition and one hundredth outside the Commonwealth Games qualifying standard.  Steven Mackay came in for the silver, with Taylor Renouf and Tyler Johnson taking 4th and 5th place respectively.

On the field, the best performance was from Daniel Dubras, who got a superb new PB, throwing over 60m for the first time with 61.64m to take the gold in the U20M Javelin.

Jersey Spartan had great representation on the male 200m races – four in the U16B final with 2 medalists and one medalist in the U20M final, as well as the four senior men.  The large group of U16 male sprinters is great for the Club’s future.

On the field, Ella Duarte continued her fine for in the High Jump taking home the U16G gold in 1.60m, as well as running a series of sub 13sec 100m races.  Bobbi Billington got a new PB of 31.44m for bronze in the U14G Javelin, with Alessandra Pinel a close 4th in a PB of 30.53m.  Samuel Oldham achieved an enormous 7 second PB in his 800m.  With little competition in the steeplechase, Bradley Andrews-Callec chose to run the 5,000m and took the gold in a steady 15:36.92.

While athletes tried to stay warm and some picked up their exam prep, on Sunday the highlights on the track came in the U16 age group.  Bibiana Riva was second in the U16G 300m hurdles in a PB of 46.38s and in the U16B 300m Cole Selby and Will Felton achieved the silver and bronze respectively, in PBs of 36.87s and 37.89s.    In the Senior men’s 100m it was a 1-2 for Jersey again with Jamie Oldham getting the sprint double and finishing in 10.80s and Steven Mackay coming in close behind in 10.84s.  The U16 boys also had three athletes progress to the 100m final where Scott Mackay won the bronze in a new PB of 11.75s.

In the field, Dhan Phangali jumped 1.65m PB in the U16B high jump to take the bronze.  In the throws, Rachel Leck got bronze in the SW discus with 29.43m, and new athlete Eliyah Schwartz getting silver in the U20W discus with 23.11m.  Ella Duarte earned silver in the Long Jump with a wind assisted 5.25m in the last round of the competition.

Many thanks to Paula Allbut for her organisation of this trip – and to all the coaches and officials who support the athletes over this weekend.

JSAC are grateful to the support the Club receives from Jersey Sport via their Travel Grant.
