Daphne Wagstaffe Memorial 5km – 6 June 2012
The Daphne Wagstaffe 5km memorial run was held at West Park recently. 33 runners took part in the event in muggy conditions on an out and back course. First runner home was Tom Brown in an impressive 16 mins 22 seconds, followed by boxer Boyd Monroe (16.58) and triathlete Marc Nicol (17.16).
Jo Gorrod finished eighth overall and first lady in 17 minutes 58 seconds, with Sam Lee second lady home (21.04), just ahead of Jenny O’Brien (21.09).
There were some impressive performance, including Rob Douglas running with his dog and posting a time of 22 mins 23 seconds, but the ‘run of the day’ award went to Lyndon Farnham, In his first race since October, having had operations on both feet, the politician came home in 25 minutes 09 seconds, signalling his return to athletics.
After the race, Nigel Wagstaffe presented trophies to Marc Nicol and Sam Lee, the first Spartans home to have not won the trophy before.
