The Jersey Spartan Athletic Club held another of their monthly night-time 5km races at West Park recently. Conditions were dry but windy which slightly affected the times posted. Teenager William Brown took the lead at the 2km mark and opened up a 30 metre lead on the rest of the field. However in the final kilometre Dave Ibbotson produced his famous “kick”, reducing the youngster’s lead. Brown however managed to hold on to win in a time of 17 mins 32 secs, with fast-finishing Ibbotson second in 17.35. For his great efforts Brown won himself the “run of the night” award. Third place went to Jamie Barker in 18.07.
There were two female athletes competing. Katie Silva was first home in a time of 20.54, while Mandy Evans clocked in with a 22.15 performance.
