Husband and wife, Tony and Andrea Banks were the winners on Thursday night in the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s 3.2 mile Sunset Trophy. The race which has been on the calendar for decades, started at Le Braye, heading up the dunes to Les Quennevais, along the railway walk and down La Pulente Hill back to Le Braye.
Early leader Jon Coote unfortunately had to pull out injured but his brave run won him the “run of the night” award. Tony Banks overtook him and came home in 19mins 13 secs, half a minute ahead of Phil Maguire who just held off the fast- finishing Jamie Barker who ran 19.49.
Andrea Banks just got the better of Sylvia Thompson in a tight encounter in the women’s race. Banks finished 18 seconds ahead of Thompson in a time of 22.49. Chantilly McCarthy took third place in 24.10.
