A near perfect evening for athletics…..

FB Fields was blessed with almost perfect weather on Thursday evening – sunshine, clear blue skies and very little wind for once.  Perfect conditions for our 4th track & field event of 2021.

In the discus, Daniel Ross (U17) threw 35.03m, despite a recent ankle injury.  Our local heptathlete, Lucy Woodward (U20), gained a PB with distance of 33.18m in the javelin.

In the sprints, Danielle Wilkinson (U17) shaved almost a second and a half off her previous legal 200m PB to come in at 27.6s as she chased Lucy Woodward (U20) down, who won the race with a respectable 26.7s.  Kieran Pister (U15) won the older boys race in 25.4s and Theo Stratford (U13) had another strong sprint performance.

In the 800m races, our athletes continued their good form from the BMC meet at the weekend with Jem Gurner (U20) running close to 2 minutes again, and Issac Thompson (U15) shaving 18 seconds off his PB.

The feature event of the evening was a 5,000m for athletes U20 and above with a great field of 11 athletes, many trying the distance on the track for the first time.  The race also created a great opportunity for our trainee officials to get some experience with lap charts.  After the first 3 laps the race had split into a number of groups with the leaders (James Faudermer, Tom Atkinson (U20), Ollie Garrod and George Rice) staying together until the lap 11 when James and Ollie stretched slightly ahead.  James took the win with 15:20.5, with Ollie just behind in 15:25.0.  Tom Atkinson put in a strong performance to come 4th in 15:48.6, with Harry Worth less than a minute behind.

As usual, thanks to all the officials and volunteers to make the events possible for our athletes, and to Daniel from Sportscast Jersey capturing the action on film,
