THE FITNESS FIRST SPONSORED JERSEY SPARTAN AC SPRING 10KM

The Jersey Spartan Athletic Club Fitness First Spring 10km event was held recently in good conditions from near the Freedom Tree on the Marina to St. Aubin and back.
James Cunningham was a clear winner in a time of 33 minutes 36 seconds. He took the lead at the start and gradually drew clear of the field. He finished unchallenged with a personal best time, his performance winning him the run of the day award.
Second home also recording a personal best (34.28) was Dave Ibbotson, as did 3rd home Elliot Lincoln (35.04). It had been a gutsy run from Lincoln as he tried to retain the title he had won 12 months ago.
With Claire Forbes, last year’s women’s winner absent, the stage was set for Jo Gorrod to step up to the plate. She didn’t disappoint and came home well clear of her nearest rivals, to secure victory in a time of 36 minutes 34 seconds. Second home in 38.42 was Katie Thompson, with Arlene Lewis just behind in 3rd place in 38 minutes 50 seconds.
Winners of the perpetual trophies were, senior men James Cunningham, veteran Phil Ahier and Super Vet man Nick Gorrod. Jo Gorrod won the senior women’s trophy, vet woman was won by Arlene Lewis and the Super vet trophy went to Sarah Corcoran.
The next JSAC race is the annual Andy Coughlan Memorial ten mile race at 9 a.m. on Sunday 1st May, starting at Big Verns on the 5 mile road and finishing at West Park. No pre-entry is required and competitors can enter at Big Vern’s car park on the day.
