On a day bathed in warm sunshine, Wollaton Park in Nottingham was humming with adrenaline as the 2025 UK Inter Counties XC Championships got underway. What felt like perfect conditions soon felt pretty hot on the open, hilly course.
Jersey Spartans AC had two runners representing Hampshire. First up was Zane Simpson in the Boys U15 category.
Zane’s approach to the race was very composed, the occasion didn’t impact his warm up preparations and he went under starters order with confidence. He achieved an excellent 70th place in a field of over 300, finishing in the points for Hampshire and helping them to an impressive fourth place in the team event. It was a challenging track with 3 thigh sapping hills, before a hazard packed down hill to the finish. Well Done Zane!!!
Next up was Teddy Wilson in the Boys U13 category. A more lively approach to his preparations, Teddy did well to channel his excitement into his performance. He knew the start was vital, and got himself in a good position as they ran round the long loop before the ascent and decent to the finish. He was the 2nd finisher for his Hampshire team and the 42nd overall in a similar sized field, another great performance.
Both runners gave it their all, which was clear from the amount of time they took to recover and start their warm down and stretching.
Well done to both Zane and Teddy, and a great boost ahead of the English Schools event which they both take part in next weekend, representing the Channel Islands.
