Finally, the photos from our trip to Hampshire Champs! Below is the report that Jason wrote for the JEP, in case you missed it. There are loads of photos and a lot of videos of the action.
Jersey Spartan athletes produced a solid set of results at the 2025 Hampshire Athletics Championships in Portsmouth, collecting ten gold medals – eight of which came on the track – despite testing conditions caused by strong headwinds on the home straight.
Over 70 athletes and officials travelled from the Island, probably the biggest team the Club has ever taken, with performances across a range of age groups and disciplines contributing to a successful weekend.
Steven Mackay led the way in the senior men’s sprints, winning the 100m and 200m titles, and Jamie Oldham repeated that achievement in the U20 men’s category, both athletes repeating the double that they achieved in 2024. Steve has now won the senior 200m for three years in a row.Bradley Andrews-Callec added to the gold tally with victories in both the 3,000m and 3,000m steeplechase, with his steeplechase time being only just outside the championship record.
Ella Duarte came away with three medals – one of each colour – in the U15 girls high jump, long jump and 100m, while in the U13 girls’ category, Bobbi Billington secured gold in the 1,500m and silver in the javelin.Cole Selby won 2 silver medals in the 200m and 300m – a successful weekend considering his very recent move down from middle distance.
The Club’s success via its younger athletes continued through Bibiana Riva, who won the U15 girls’ 800m with a personal best time of 2.21.78, while Thea Thompson ran a lifetime best of 4.44.01 in the U15 girls’ 1,500m to finish three seconds clear of the field.
In the field events, Daniel Dubras claimed gold in the U20 men’s javelin and para-athlete Rachel Leck earned bronze in the senior women’s open discus event.
Meanwhile, former Guernsey Commonwealth Games multi-eventer and Olympian Dale Garland, wearing a Jersey Spartan vest for the first time, picked up silver in the men’s long jump.Coaches were also busy this weekend, with Cat, Rebecca, Tony, Sarah, Paula and Claire all officiating over the weekend. Thanks to all the coaches and parents who travelled with us, and to Jersey Sport for their continued support via their Travel and Supporting Sport Grants.
