Great performances by visiting athletes

JSAC had an exciting few days down at FB Fields last week.  The Club are now the proud owners of an EDM – electronic measuring equipment that was used for the first time on Tuesday evening when a visiting Senior Field Official from the UK was training up our local volunteers on how to use the kit.  To take advantage of the training, throws competitions were held on Tuesday (03/08/21) and Thursday (05/08/21) to test out the system and get the officials used to using it.  And to christen the new technology, it was lovely to welcome Shadine Duquemin back home, who delighted us with excellent performances in the discus – 56.22m (Tues) and 55.25 (Thurs).  Obviously inspired by Shadine’s good form, Daniel Ross (U17) threw a new PB on Tuesday or 39.31, as did Jack Burns (U20) with 35.36m on Tuesday, which he stretched to 35.65m on Thursday.  Jack also threw a Javelin PB of 39.97.

On the track, for once the wind was against the athletes in the sprints.  There were a number of new or visiting athletes who pushed the locals hard.  Marley Byfield (u15) of Blackheath & Bromley romped home to win the 2oom in a PB of 25.0s, a good distance in front of his nearest competitor, Kieran Pister who finished in 25.7s.

In the distance events, Casper Whitewood (U17) and Bradley Andrews-Callec braved the wind to complete a 3,000m.  Bradley’s time of 9:37.4 takes him into the top 20 for his age group so far in 2021.

Many thanks to all the officials and volunteers who made the evening possible.  Please note – some times may not appear on Po10 due to lack of a L2 Timekeeper for the first 2 races of the evening.

Please see the full results for Tuesday and Thursday, and some get shots of the action from Dan at Sportscast Jersey.
