English Schools Success for Kathryn

JERSEY discus thrower Kathryn Rothwell won gold in the English Schools Athletics Association Track and Field Championship in Birmingham at the weekend.

Competing in the senior age group, her effort of 47.02m was just short of a personal best but easily good enough to take top spot on the podium as she finished just under three metres ahead of her nearest rival.

There was plenty to celebrate in the Duquemin household once again as brother and sister Zane and Shadine both returned with silver medals.

Zane’s throw of 57.92m in the senior boys’ discus could have been enough to take the gold medal only a matter of months ago had he not introduced the eventual champion Lawrence Okoye to his coach John Hillier.

Okoye’s super-fast progression up the ranks culminated with him taking the spot at the Alexander Stadium with a record-breaking 61.87m.
