Competitive races in blustery conditions @ FB

A good turn out of junior athletes enjoyed some interesting weather conditions on Tuesday evening for the 5th event in our Summer Track & Field Series.  The rain has cleared but it was far from seasonal with winds gusting to over 7 meters per second at times during the sprints.  Despite the conditions the sprinters had some great competitive races.  In the 100m races, Hayden Pister (U20) overtook Danielle Wilkinson (U15) in the final half after Danielle’s good start.  Heat 4 was particularly exciting, with all 4 girls finishing within 3 tenths and Kayleigh De La Haye (U15) getting the win in 13.9s.

Matthew Brown (U17) ran a strong 400m with a win in 53.7, from Harvey Butler (U20).

There was a small field in the 1500m with both Isla Hall (U13) and Jem Gurner (U20) continuing their fine form this year with 5:08.7 and 4:20.6 respectively.  Bradley Andrews-Callec (U15) and Casper Whitewood (U17) had a good race in the 3,000m.  Bradley ran 9:33.8 in his first outing at the distance – an excellent performance – and Casper improved on the PB he achieved as the recent BMC meeting with 9:36.1.

In the long jump, Jonty Butler bettered his PB by 2cm to take him to 6.04m.
