Eighty youngsters took part in the seventh and final race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series at Noirmont Common.
168 runners took part in at least one race this season, with 29 children finishing all 7 races, great effort!
A difficult 1.1km course with a gruelling hill up to the finish produced some very exciting and competitive racing.
In the 7/8 age group the boys and girls races were run separately due to the large numbers competing. In the boys’ race Corey Heath won from Scott Le Moucheux who just pipped Freddie Lucas although Freddie’s previous four victories give him the series’ title. In the girls’ race Elizabeth Atkinson won by one second ahead of newcomer Erin Mc Alister with Pia Gurner in third.
The 9/10 age group ran two laps of the course over one lap Oliver Rothwell recorded his fourth series win to claim the title by leading home Jakob Stanton and Thomas Atkinson. In the girls’ race Lucy Hunt won a fifth race to also clinch the series. Skye Leather ran strongly to finish second and Elli Carroll followed her home in third place
The older age group completed three laps of the course. In the Boys’ 11-12 Jack Kennedy had a convincing win. Newcomer Henry Horton has continued to improve this season and put in a great effort to claim the silver medal with Peter Holmes earning the bronze. In the Girls 11-12 Cleo Leather showed her stamina and had a great win, with Adele Maher in second place and Chloe Jeanne in third. Finally, numbers in the 13-14 age group were down due to the English Schools competition, but the racing was still exciting with Daniel Du Val winning the boys race.
After the race, Advisa Group medals were given to the first three home in each age group and lucky race numbers were drawn for four pairs of cinema ticket spot prizes. The season finale – relay races and prize presentations – will take place after the Easter holidays, on Saturday, 10 May.
