DATE        1 December 2012              Results sheet Advisa_8thDec_12_ Race_ 4

The fourth Advisa Group Cross Country race took place last Saturday at Queens Valley. Runners congregated in the car park below the dam before climbing up to the check in and start at the south west corner of the reservoir.

The under 9 age group ran out for 500 metres before returning along the same path to the finish. The 9/10 age group ran a 1.5 kilometre clockwise loop by crossing the reservoir over the bridge that lies half way along the reservoir. The 11/12 age group ran two laps and the 13/14 age group ran 3 laps of this loop in readiness for the Hampshire’s next month. There was a record turnout of 98 runners which has surpassed all numbers in 23 years of running these races.

The start of the 7-8 boys’ race was chaotic as 32 runners sped from the start. This was by the far the busiest race of the day and the spectators saw Oliver Rothwell win his fourth series win out of four in beating Jacob Stanton by six seconds from george Daniels. It was impossible to record times for the latter runners owing to the number crossing the line. In the Girls’ race the series is taking an interesting turn as Lucy hunt just held of Lily Scott to win by four seconds with Katie Le Rougetel  comfortably grabbing the third spot.

The second race saw Jack Kennedy win by eighteen seconds in also making it four series wins out of four. Four boys were in contention for second spot with Luke Killian just pipping Dougie Brown by two seconds. The girls started two minutes after the boys with their times being adjusted accordingly. Adele Maher won by an incredible twenty nine seconds. However this was the closest race of the day with Rosie McManus grabbing second spot by four seconds from a fast finishing Elissa Polak who just held off Aimee Hugh for third place.

The final race of the day was the eleven and over age groups in which nineteen runners left the start. William Brown won the 11/12 age group from jack Leerson and Jack Lutz whilst Floence Gothard was a comfortable winner in this girls’ age group from Daisy McAllister and Isobel Atkinson. Samuel Maher followed in his sister’s footsteps in winning from Joe Hugh and Joonas Jakota whilst Yasmin Lookess beat Jessica Troy and Gemma Gothard who was suffering from a blistered foot.

After the race Advisa Group medals were given to the first three home in each age group and lucky race numbers were drawn for six pairs of cinema ticket spot prizes.
