Great turnout in wet Autumn wind and rain at St Ouens Valley …
Race 2 results.
The second race of the Advisa Hepburn Oracle junior cross country series saw yet another record 107 finishers on a very wet Saturday at St Ouen’s Manor.
The course was a challenging one kilometre loop of the manor grounds, weaving through trees and, down a hill past the lake and up the other side to finish with a run down the drive back to the start. The first three boys finished in the same order as the previous race, with Freddie Lucas winning by four seconds from Corey Heath and Owen Graham. The girl’s race saw newcomer Erin McAlister claiming victory from Elizabeth Atkinson and Grace Butler in third, all finishing within 3 seconds of each other. Both girls crossed the line together with Grace gaining the verdict by one second. This age saw the largest entry with forty four runners completing the course.
In the 9-10 age group the runners completed two laps of the course. Nineteen boys and seventeen girls started the race which was the second largest entry Luke Killian lead from the start and held on to finish first, with Oliver Rothwell in second and Jakob Stanton a comfortable third. In the girls race, Elissa Polak also beat Lucy Hunt by four seconds with Lily King coming home in third place,
The last race of the day was the 11-14 age group with the runners completing three laps of the course. Again there was a record finish with thirty one runners finishing the race. Jack Kennedy had a close tussle with Isaac Du Val in the 11-12 boys’ age group as they ran neck and neck for the first two laps, only for Jack to pull away on the third lap to win by nineteen seconds. Peter Holmes ran a comfortable race for third place. In the girls’ 11-12 age group Cleo Leather was first across the line followed by Adele Maher and Rosie McManus in bronze position. In the older age group three boys were locked together for one lap with Samuel Maher leading William Brown and Aaron Ottley. Sam pulled away to win comfortably but the most exciting finish of the day went to William and Aaron who battled it out, William just pipping Aaron but both recording the same time. In the girls’ race Yasmine Lookess won from Isobel Atkinson and Natasha Polak.
After the race Advisa Group medals were given to the first three home in each age group and lucky race numbers were drawn for four pairs of cinema ticket spot prizes.
