Advisa Hepburn Oracle Cross Country League
RACE 6 VENUE: Noirmont
DATE 23 February 2013 Results Advisa Race 6 Feb 13
The fifth Advisa Group Cross Country race took place last Saturday at Noirmont. On a very cold Saturday, and with many of the older runners saving their legs for the next day’s inter-insular, over 70 hardy youngsters took part in a challenging course around Noirmont Point.
The 7-8 year olds started first, at such at a tremendous pace that they caught the lead bicycle, which wasn’t able to accelerate as quickly as the boys! Oliver Rothwell continued his good form recording six wins out of six in holding, followed in by Jakob Stanton and Samuel Pinel. There was a fantastic race by the girls with Lucy Hunt just beating Lily Scott by a second, and Clemmie Carnegie claiming third place.
In the nine to 10 age group, the youngsters ran two laps of the course. Like Oliver in the younger age group Jack Kennedy also made it six wins out of six in leading home Peter Holmes and Dougie Brown. In the girl’s race, with Rosie McManus ran very strongly to claim her first victory of the season, followed by Aimee Hugh and then Ellie Boustouler..
The final race of the day was the eleven and over age groups in which nine runners competed. These runners ran three laps. Isaac Du Val was first in for the 11-12 year boys, followed by Henry Horton, winning silver in his first ever race, and Michael Anno in third. Daisy McAllister was the quickest girl in that race, with Isobel Atkinson and Natasha Polak following her in. Finally Lawrence Lees-Baker and Sam Maher were one and two in the oldest age group..
After the race Advisa Hepburn Oracle medals were given to the first three home in each age group and lucky race numbers were drawn for six pairs of cinema ticket spot prizes. The next race in the series takes place at 23 March 2013, at a location to be announced in the JEP and on the Spartans web-site.
