The JSAC held their monthly 5k race recently from a windy West Park to just past Bel Royal and back. Despite the strong winds some of the times were promising. Returning to form with a bang was Josh Brien who posted 17 mins 12 secs to record a fine victory. Hot on his heels in second place was veteran Dave Ibbotson, his famous “kick” not enabling him to get the better of his younger rival this time. Dominic won the battle of the Maher brothers, third in 17:42, while early leader Damian finished fourth two seconds behind.
Helen Macleod from Scotland won her first Spartan 5k in the women’s race. Her time of 23:04 just kept her ahead of fast-finishing super-veteran Sue le Ruez who was second in 23:08. Sweden’s Karin Bessing made it a truly international race finishing third in 23:50.
