In order to give our athletes challenging competition opportunities, we booked a trip to Cardiff to attend the Welsh Senior Track & Field Championships.
Unfortunately Jamie Oldham had a stomach bug and wasn’t able to attend and missed out on some high quality competition – so it was a road trip for 3. Every cloud has a silver lining though, and this allowed Chairman Rebecca Orpin to gain officiating experiences on both days of the weekend, allowing her to apply for her Level 2 Starters Assistant licence.
Bradley Andrews-Callec took the opportunity to race on both days. He entered the 1500m on the Saturday and competed in a high quality 200om steeplechase on the Sunday.
Bradley settled comfortably into the senior race on the Sunday and finished in 8th pace in his heat, with a new PB of 4:08.15. The sun shone for us on Sunday and Bradley had some great competition in the steeplechase. The race was won in a new Welsh record, with both 1st and 2nd place going under the qualification standard for the U18 European Championships. Bradley was 3rd in a new PB of 6:11.38 despite taking a tumble on the last water jump. Luckily he wasn’t hurt and was delighted with his weekends work.
This was a really good competition for the Club to attend and we were made very welcome. As usual, thanks to Jersey Sport for their support via their Travel and Workforce grants.
