RACE 7 VENUE: La Braye Sand Dunes

The final Advisa Group Cross Country race took place last Saturday on the sand dunes at La Braye. Due to the sky larks nesting the course was moved to a site below the edge of La Moye golf course. It was an out and back course of one kilometre in length looping through the dunes in an anti-clockwise direction. The first half kilometre outwards consisted of a slight climb with the turn taking place by the large concrete seat. There was then a steep climb after the turn before a gradual descent back to the start. There was a blue sky at a warm temperature of some 14 degrees centigrade as the runners of the first races, the 7-8 age group, gathered at the start with the sound of the car club races in the distance as they sped down the five mile road.
The 7-8 year olds ran one exactly one kilometre and this was the biggest race of the with 31 runners competing. There was a fantastic race by the girls with Lucy Hunt just beating Lily Scott by one second as she held off the challenge. Clemie Carnegie took third place. Oliver Rothwell continued his good form recording seven wins out of seven in holding off Jakob Stanton and George Daniels who both just got the better of Sam Nisbet.
In the nine to ten age group the runners completed 2 laps of the 1 kilometre course. Peter Holmes had a close race in just beating Luke Killian with Dougie Brown coming third. In the girl’s race Adele Maher also had a convincing win in leading home Rosie McManus and Elissa Polak.
The final race of the day was the eleven and over age groups in which seventeen runners competed. three laps of the course recording a 3 kilometre race. Jack Lutz led home William Brown and Ben Le Rougetel to win the 11/12 age group whilst Florence Gothard won from Isobelle Atkinson and Daisy McAllister. Finally Sam Maher won the 13-14 age group from Ollie Tutner and Barnaby Zaman, and Gemma Gothard beat Yasmin Lookess and Jessica Troy won in the girl’s race.
After the race Advisa Group medals were given to the first three home in each age group and lucky race numbers were drawn for six pairs of cinema ticket spot prizes.
