Glenn Springate was the winner of the Wilson Trophy 5K handicap event held by Jersey Spartans at West Park on a sunny Tuesday night. Competitors began the race at different times depending on their handicap.
It was a closely contested event with the first eight runners home finishing within a minute of one another. Starting 4 minutes and 45 seconds after the first runner had departed, Springate made steady progress through the field, taking the lead in the final few metres and posting a time of 20-01. Hot on his heels and gaining 2nd place in the fastest time of 17-10 and winning run of the night award was Jamie Barker. Long-time leader Judith Russel ran 23-28 to finish third, just holding off Sue Mawson.
