U17 Men Shine at South East 5k Road Champs

Four talented young athletes delivered an impressive performance at the South East Region 5K Road Championships this weekend, showcasing determination and teamwork.

The U17 boys’ team, made up of Ewan Pilley, Samual Oldham, Daniel Wood and Ethan Seery, travelled to Milton Keynes for this year’s event, which was hosted at the fast-paced Stantonbury Athletic Track. With the race starting and finishing on the track alongside the U15 boys, the combined start created a tight and challenging opening for all competitors.

A total of 20 U17 boys lined up, setting off at a controlled pace before heading out onto the road section of the course. A strong start proved crucial to avoid congestion at the early funnel, and the team rose to the challenge.

Ewan Pilley quickly established himself in the leading pack, maintaining second place for much of the race. In a thrilling finish, he surged ahead in the final 400 metres to claim victory. Close behind, Daniel Wood produced a determined run to secure third place overall and second in the U17 category.

Attention then turned to the remaining team members, with tense moments as the final positions were decided. Ethan Seery crossed the line in 17th place, just ahead of Samual Oldham in 18th. Their combined efforts were enough to secure a well-earned gold team medal for the squad.

Despite cold conditions and a slight breeze, the athletes delivered strong performances, capping off a really successful day for the U17 boys’ team.
