U13 Intercounties success
Following their success at the Hampshire Athletics Championships in May, U13 athletes Florence Gothard and Jack Leerson were selected to represent Hampshire in the Intercounties competition at Kingsmeadow stadium in London.
Florence, who is still a year young in this age group, ran in the B string 800m. She ran a very sensible race in extremely warm conditions and beat girls who were not only older than her, but also considerably taller than her, to come a very creditable 4th in a time of 2.36.
Jack Leerson also competed in the B string 800m and ran more than a 3 seconds personal best, in a time of 2.23 to place a very close 2nd in this race. Having won Hampshire he was also selected to throw in the A string javelin. Unfortunately this event was immediately following his 800m and he was disappointed to only place 4th with a throw of 30.78, well below his personal best .
