Jersey Spartan Royal Yacht Autumn 10k race 15th September 2013
The Royal Yacht Hotel/gymclub.com autumn 10k race was run in pleasant sunshine from Gorey village, around St Catherine’s and finishing in Longbeach car park.

In the men’s race, Bruno Francisco was the early leader with teenager Elliott Dorey keeping him company. These two athletes drew away from the rest of the field, with Dorey outsprinting his older rival to win in 34 mins 10secs, with Francisco runner-up in 34-14. A close battle for third spot saw Phil Ahier (36-44) just getting the better of Josh Brien (37.00) and Jon Coote (37.01). Brien was in third place for a long time but near the end went the wrong way, causing him to lose valuable seconds.
Pre race favourite for the women’s event was duathlete Katie Thompson. Having made a fast start she suddenly became ill around the 3k mark and had to drop out of the race. This left Arlene Lewis out in front and she won unchallenged in 40-59. Runner-up in 44-20 was Kerry Petulla who used the race as a good workout for her main goal this autumn, the Jersey Marathon. Third place in 44-28 was Liz Le Guillou, also training for the marathon at the beginning of October.
Senator Lyndon Farnham presented trophies to the first three men and women home and awarded age group prizes to Jon Coote (40), Dave Woodsford (50) and Gil Blackwood (60) and Jodi Fowler (35), Sue Le Ruez (45) and Ellen Barr (55).
