JSAC Ogier Cross-Country Series 2025/26 – Race 1 – Report and Results

It was a fantastic start to the 2025/26 cross-country series, again kindly sponsored by Ogier.

Despite a chilly wind, the weather held out for dry conditions at Les Quennevais Sports Centre.  This is a challenging course, with an energy-sapping section in the dunes just outside the perimeter fence and all athletes are to be commended for their resilience in giving it a go.

As ever, the focus was on fun, a friendly atmosphere and the opportunity for everyone to participate in a Club event.  However, it was also an opportunity for medals to be won and series points to be secured.

Perhaps most remarkably, and possibly for the first time in JSAC history (to be confirmed….), triplets took all of the medal placings in a race (U9G – well done Alexandra, Elsie and Catherine L-S).  Well done also to Hector Christensen who won the U9 boys’ race with Oscar Papageorgiou and Henry Pitcher in hot pursuit.

In the U11 races, Izzy Ohlsson won the girls’ race by some distance, with Toby Collins just prevailing over Max Assiter in a tight finish to the boys’ race.

In the U13 races, Bobbi Billington held off a strong challenge from Savannah Hern, meanwhile Daniel Rogers was a comfortable winner in the boys race.

In the U15G race, Florence Williams took an impressive victory in a very strong field, whilst in the U15B race there was a lung-busting sprint finish between Teddy Wilson and Leo Gage, with Teddy snatching victory on the line.

The U17 boys race proved a win for Ewan Pilley, followed by Danny Wood and Zane Simpson.

In the Senior race, there were victories for Chris Stephens and Helen Hadjam.

2025 10 18 – OGIER XC – Les Quennevais – Results

Huge kudos to our ‘Runners of the Day’ (Callum, Matilda, Evelyn, Thomas, Freya, Daisy and Dylan), all of whom showed particular commitment, resilience, sportsmanship or positivity in their respective races and who embody what the series is all about.

Thanks also to the tremendous group of volunteers who helped run the event on the day.  We are truly grateful, and very aware that events like this do not happen without your generosity of time and spirit.

A big shout out to:

 – Zara Williams, Penny Wilson and Linda Lelai who ran check in so efficiently;

 – Nick Williams (RD), Matt Wilson (RD) and Philippa Arnett-Willie on the start/finish line with race briefings, timings, results and medals;

 – Katrina Williams for processing the start lists and results sheets;

 – The intrepid team of marshals, led by Tim Oldham, who gave up a good part of their Saturday to stand in remote parts of the course: Emma Ohlsson, Sonja Assiter, Rob and Sarah Billington, Sarah Wood, Annie Shine.  We hugely appreciate this sacrifice!

 – Rob Billington and Tim Oldham for transporting all of the kit to and from the venue, and Rob for lending the van;

 – the athletes who so willingly became hi-viz heroes and helped lead and tail run for the younger age categories: Teddy Wilson, Pheebs, Owen and Max Assiter, Niamh Church, Florence Williams, Beth Silva, Orla Lelai and Lia Romero.  Supporting the younger athletes around the course is so important, and these athletes are to be commended for helping in this way.

Next stop is Noirmont on 13 December!  This is a beautiful course, and what better way to enhance your festive celebrations than a bracing run in a stunning Jersey setting.  Please encourage friends and family to sign up, as we have plenty of space for more participants!
