Jersey Athletes Represent Channel Islands at English Schools Championships
Three talented young athletes from Jersey were selected to represent the Channel Islands at last weekend’s prestigious English Schools Cross Country Championships.
This year’s event took place in Liverpool at the historic Sefton Park. The venue is well known in the cross-country calendar and recently hosted a major selection race for athletes hoping to qualify for the European Cross Country Championships, highlighting the quality and reputation of the course.
Selection for the event is a significant achievement and offers young runners the opportunity to compete against some of the best school-age athletes from across the United Kingdom. The championship is widely regarded as one of the most competitive and respected fixtures in the schools athletics calendar.
The athletes were chosen following strong recent performances at the Hampshire Cross Country Championships, along with their current form throughout the season.
Among those selected was Zane Simpson, who competed in the Inter Boys race and delivered an outstanding run to finish in 25th place against a high-quality field. Bobbi Billington took on the Junior Girls race and crossed the line in 107th place after a determined effort, while Leo Gage competed in the Junior Boys race, finishing 202nd.
Representing the Channel Islands on such a stage is a memorable experience for young athletes and a testament to their dedication and commitment to the sport.
All three runners were praised for their hard work and determination, as well as for representing the Channel Islands with pride. It was a brilliant effort all round and a performance that highlights the strength of young athletics talent coming from Jersey.
