Commonwealth Games bound Dan Halksworth was a clear winner in the Transfer 2000 10km road race held at West Park on Thursday night, run in sunny, hot but windy conditions. Results are here
Halksworth took the lead at the start and gradually pulled away from the 18 runner field to win in a fast time of 32 mins 54 secs, also winning himself the “run of the night” award. Runner-up, sporting a Mexican moustache, was Jamie Barker in 36.28 with Elliot Lincoln third in 36.51.
Sylvia Thompson returned to victory in the women’s race, coming home in 41.58, overcoming the challenge of Vicky Barrett who finished second in 42.45. The fast-improving Mandy Evans took third spot in 45.34.
After the race prizes from the sponsor, Transfer 2000, were presented to the first five men and women by JSAC Road Running Committee chairman Dave Woodsford.
The next JSAC event is a two lap mixed terrain race of around 4 miles at Portelet (meeting in the car-park) on Thursday 17th July, starting at 6.30pm.
