Damian Maher and Katie Thompson were the first man and first woman home in this year’s Jersey Spartan Sunset Trophy race over approximately 3 ¼ miles, run in warm evening sunshine. Results here;
Maher who had competed in the Run Jersey half marathon only 4 days before showed no ill effects and took the lead from the off. After winding their way up from Le Braye over the sand dunes to Les Quennevais, the athletes ran along the railway walk before going down La Pulente hill to the finish at Le Braye.
Maher came home in 19 mins 38 secs, winning him the run of the night award. Runner-up was Phil Ahier in 20.28 with last year’s winner Jon Coote third in 21.13.
Katie Thompson was the first woman to finish in 22.13 and was fifth overall. Second was Mandy Evans in 26.55 and third Marie Whittaker in 33.55.
The next JSAC event is an 8km road race from Jardin d’Olivet in Trinity on Thursday 26th June with a 6.30pm start.
