The Jersey Spartan Athletic Club held the first of the cross country seasons Greame Le Maistre sponsored events at Pont Marquet Country Park at the weekend. 38 athletes took part, including 12 juniors who ran less laps than their senior counterparts. Results here.
The big story of the day was in the ladies race, and the defeat of Jo Gorrod by a fellow local woman for the first time at cross-country since 2001. In a 5 lap, 8km race, Gorrod was overtaken on the 3rd lap by 17 year-old Chloe Turmel, who powered away from the older rival to win the ladies race and finish 5th overall in a time of 34mins 13secs winning the run of the day award. Gorrod was 12th overall and second lady in 36mins 19secs and Danielle Leerson clinched 3rd spot in the female event in 40mins 20secs.
Youth continued to have its day in the mens race. In a tight finish, 17-year-old Dan Robinson sprinted clear of his competitors to finish first in 32mins 46secs. Second home was Aaron Turnel in 32mins 56scs, with Tom Perchard 3rd in 31mins 58secs.
The next JSAC event in on Thursday 6th December. It’s the first of the winter night races from west park over 5km, starting at 6:30pm
