The 59 starters faced a strong wind but dry conditions on a flat course.  Because of the conditions, the men’s race was a tactical race.  In a final dash for the line, teenage sensation Elliot Dorey, in only his 3rd ever 10K, outkicked his older rivals Dan Halksworth and Nick Saunders to win in a personal best time of 33 minutes 50 seconds.  Runner-up Halksworth 33.53 just getting the better of Nick Saunders 33.56 for the minor placing’s.  Dorey’s superb victory and tactical nous, also won him the run of the day award.

The women’s race turned out to be a procession for veteran Jo Gorrod.  The classy former island games champion was an easy winner and eleventh overall, coming home in a time of 36 minutes 55 seconds.  Arlene Lewis ran a steady race, and passed a few male athletes in the final kilometres.  She was the 2nd lady home and 22nd overall in 39 minutes 20 seconds, ahead of 3rd placed and 29th overall, Carol Knight who finished in 41 minutes 43 seconds.

The next Jersey Spartan Athletic Club event is the half-marathon which will be run from the F.B. fields at 9 a.m. on Sunday 20 November.
