Jersey Spartan AC held their last cross-country race of the year at the weekend on the dunes at St Ouen.

Sixteen hardy souls took part in the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s monthly 5km race at West Park recently.
The winners of the age groups at the Advisa Junior trail at Queens Valley were Edward Jeffries, Elizabeth Atkinson, Luke , Lucy Hunt, Jack Kennedy, Adele Maher, Lucy Hunt, Isaac Du Val, Lily McGarry
The JSAC cross-country season got underway at the weekend at Les Creux park. In mild, cloudy conditions the four lap, 5.6miles senior race was led at the start by Jon Coote.
The Jersey Spartan Athletic Club held another of their monthly night-time 5km races at West Park recently.
The Advisa Junior Cross Country event was held at St Ouens manor on Saturday and was a great advert for youngsters enjoying the beautiful grounds
Bruno Francisco was the Mens winner of the Half Marathon in 1:15.21 whilst Katie Thomson won the Ladies in 1:29.13
The coaches of Junior athletes from Minis to Under 17 age groups are holding a social event at Jersey Bowl with Bowling followed by a meal and presentation of awards to reflect achievements this year of track and field.
Despite the strong winds and driving rain there was a good turn-out for the Jersey Spartan 10km race at the Five Mile Road at the weekend. Tom Perchard made light of the conditions,

Glenn Springate was the winner of the Wilson Trophy 5K handicap event held by Jersey Spartans at West Park on a sunny Tuesday night. Competitors began the race at different times depending on their handicap.
The JSAC held a 1.4 mile beach race at St. Brelade’s Bay. Jamie Barker was the winner of the event in 8 mins 5 secs

Damian Maher and Katie Thompson were the first man and first woman home in this year’s Jersey Spartan Sunset Trophy race over approximately 3 ¼ miles, run in warm evening sunshine.

Triathlete Dan Halksworth was a clear winner in a Jersey Spartan AC 10km road race run recently at Sorel in hot, sunny conditions.

Dan Romeril and Mandy Evans were the first man and woman home in the Jersey Spartan 2 lap race ( approximately 4 miles) at Queens Valley recently.

The annual Andy Coughlan Memorial ten mile race was run at the weekend from Big Verns to West Park in warm and sunny conditions. 37 competitors contested the event with Dominic Maher just getting the better of his brother Damian by 16 seconds, 58 mins 35 secs to 58.51.
The JSAC held a 5k road race at Les Platons recently. In perfect windless dry conditions some fast times were posted. Leading from the front and winning in a quick time of 15:36, was triathlete Dan Hawksworth. Chasing him hard and finishing in second, was Josh Brien, his 16:22 time winning him the run of the night award.
The annual Club Championships are being held on Sunday 22nd June 2014 at the FB Fields. We want to involve as many athletes, parents and family members as possible, to make it a family day for all to enjoy.
The 2014 Advisa Group Junior Cross Country Relay Races and Presentations will take place on Saturday 10 May at Le Braye.
All races will start at 1:15pm and check in opens from 12:30pm.

There was a decent 32 runner field in a mid-week 5k race from West Park. Dan Halksworth made light of the windy conditions to come in first, unchallenged in the quick time of 16 mins 7 secs.
The Jersey Spartan spring 10k sponsored by GymClub.com was run from outside the Radisson Hotel to St Aubin and back at the weekend. Happily the rain stayed away and the 126 runners enjoyed the spring sunshine.
Fabulous morning of youngsters having fun trying out 4 events.
The format is very positive and the scoring system is great to encourage a gradual progression over the season.
Inter Insular cross country was very relaxed but highly competitive in some lovely sunshine at Pont Marquet.
Eighty youngsters took part in the seventh and final race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series at Noirmont Common.
The JSAC held their monthly 5k race recently from a windy West Park to just past Bel Royal and back. Despite the strong winds some of the times were promising. Returning to form with a bang was Josh Brien who posted 17 mins 12 secs to record a fine victory.
Jon Coote won a closely contested cross-country race at the weekend at Pont Marquet Country Park. Coote and Nick Gorrod had run together from the start until Gorrod fell a few metres behind going up the steep steps on the fifth and final lap.
The annual cross country fixture with GIAAC is nearly upon us.

In recent years Spartan vigour has improved with youth arriving.
Bruno Francisco was the clear winner of a 5.75 mile cross country race at Pont Marquet at the weekend. The course was in good condition despite the recent bad weather. Francisco powered home in 33 minutes 54 seconds, winning the race and gaining the run-of-the-day award.
Tom Perchard was a clear winner of the Les Laveurs 10k, organised by the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club at the week-end. At the eleventh hour the course was changed, as the high tide meant that several hundred metres of the Five Mile Road resembled a lake.
The fixture list has now been completed.
The JSAC held a 4.5mile cross-country race at Mont Rossignol at the weekend. In the winter sunshine Tony Banks made light of the muddy, slippery conditions to win the race in a time of 25 mins 49 secs, which also won him the run-of-the-day award.
Members of the Maher family filled three of the first four places in a 5k evening race at West Park recently.
The fifth race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series took place last Saturday at kempt Tower on another mild winter’s day. Compared with last year’s wet conditions the course was surprisingly dry so a course was planned which circum-navigated the bird sanctuary.
What was supposed to be a race of only about 4.5miles turned into a 10km cross-country at the weekend after Dave Woodsford and Jo and Nick Gorrod weren’t quite accurate with measuring a new course and the race turned into a gritty endeavour in the wind, rain and mud.
Teenager Sam Maher was the winner of the Bouley Bay hill climb at the weekend. The youngster roared home in a very good time of 6 minutes 14 seconds to also win the run-of-the-day award, ahead of his dad, Damian, who was second in 6:29.
Jersey Spartan AC held their last cross-country race of the year at the weekend on the dunes near Kempt Tower. On a clockwise 5 lap course of 5.12miles the early pace was set by Dave Woodsford before postman Jon Coote took over the lead.
The fourth race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series took place last Saturday at Queen’s Valley on a mild Winter’s day. Check in was at far end of the valley above the lower car park with the start and the end of the course by the gate on the road..
Jersey Spartan recently held a 5k night-time race at West Park. In dry conditions with light winds, 35 runners set out with the temperature dropping rapidly. The race was held in conjunction with the charity Jersken which runs a home for vulnerable orphaned children in Kenya and there were several Kenyan runners who ran in the race.
A total of 44 athletes, juniors and seniors, took part in an off-road race at Pont Marquet country park organised by Jersey Spartan at the week-end. In the December sunshine the men’s race was won by teenager Phil Maguire in a time of 28 mins 40 secs.
Bruno Francisco was the winner of a midweek 5k at West Park recently. In still, but drizzly conditions, he led 26 runners to win in a time of 16:26. Second was Dan Romeril, a late entry and a new name on the running scene in 16:34.

It was a ideal day for distance running at the Jersey Half Marathon on Sunday 17th November. Meandering from the FB Fields St Clement through Longueville to Five Oaks and across St Martins to Gorey. The event travels back along the rugged east coast.
The third race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series took place last Saturday at Beauport common. The course was a 1 kilometre anti-clockwise course that started and finished at the top of the common.
Zane Duquemin started in Athletics when he was aged nine. He says: " At the time I was involved in quite a few sports and was pretty quick. I started out as a Sprinter, but lucklily I was useful at all events- except for anything that involved running further than 200m !
Twenty eight schools were involved in Open Cross Country at Les Quennevais.
"It was great to see so many youngsters enjoying the event and trying their best"
It was a real test of character for the 11 Jersey Spartan Athletes who competed at Goodwood in the Hampshire Cross Country League. In atrocious wind and rain the course conditions were exceptionally muddy but compensated by a nice welcome at the Chichester A.C. event which had 400 athletes in attendance.
This is reminder about the third race in the series of seven sponsored by ADVISA HEPBURN ORACLE which takes place on Saturday, 16 November at Beauport. These races are organised by the JERSEY SPARTAN ATHLETICS CLUB , but are open to all.
Races will start at 1:15pm and check in opens from 12:45pm. There is no pre-registration required and no charge, thanks to the sponsorship.

The second race of the Advisa Hepburn Oracle junior cross country series saw yet another record 107 finishers on a very wet Saturday at St Ouen’s Manor.
Jersey Spartan Royal Yacht Autumn 10k race 15th September 2013
The Royal Yacht Hotel/gymclub.com autumn 10k race was run in pleasant sunshine from Gorey village, around St Catherine’s and finishing in Longbeach car park.
